The Department of Foreign Languages is very proud to announce that for the first time the Department has got a UGC minor research project. The minor project topic is “E-content of the course text book for the II and III year B.A. French Literature Students”.
The MOU signed between Lille Catholique University, France and Loyola College, Chennai allows TWO B.A. French students to pursue their 4th semester in France. This year, Joshitha Sharon and Kishore Kumar from the IInd Year B.A. French are studying at Lille Catholique University in France.
The MOU signed between Institut Albert Le Grand, Angers, France and Loyola College, Chennai allows TWO staff members to get two week training in France.
Prof. Candasamy Endowment Lecture was held on 12th September 2014 at M.R.F Hall. The endowment Lecture was given by Ms. Kamala Govindarajan, Director, Office of the Pays de la Loire Region in India on “L'avenue vers l’étude supérieure et le futur emploi pour les étudiants de français"(Higher education and future employment opportunities for French Students). The students appreciated the lecture because they got an idea about their future opportunities.
A workshop on “India Song- Marguerite Duras” was held at the Vis.Com Preview theatre on 1st October 2014 to mark the birth centenary of Marguerite Duras, a celebrated French novelist and film director. The Indian Association of Teachers of French, the French Embassy in India and the Department of Foreign Languages, Loyola College conducted this activity based workshop for the B.A. French students. Mme. Geneviève BARAONA, a pedagogical tutor of language and culture from the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, Paris animated this workshop. The B.A. French students actively participated in this workshop.
A group of 18 French students and 3 professors from Lycée Saint-Louis Sainte-Marie, a French high school in France visited the Department of Foreign Languages on 16th February 2015. A half day interaction with the B.A. French students was arranged with a welcome dance and Carnatic vocal by the B.A. French students. The Ist year B.A. French students also presented a video clipping on the gastronomy, sports and festivals of Tamil Nadu. The Students were given welcomed warmly and the interaction helped them in having a deeper insight into the French culture and civilization.
Dr.Abarna Roy attended a two week training program at the Institut Albert le Grand, Angers, France on French Language, History and Civilization of France.
Dr.Abarna Roy presented three seminars to the students of the Institut Albert le Grand and Institut Bethencourt, France on Indian Gastronomy, civilization and culture in February 2015.
Prof. Maria Priya was selected as a member of State Integrated Board of Studies, the board on languages by TANSCHE.
Prof. Maria Priya presented a paper on “Application of Apps in Foreign Lanugage teaching” at an International Conference “TILT” held at Satyabama University in association with REGIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE OFFICE (RELO) US, EMBASSY, DELHI on 14th and 15th November 2014. The Paper was published in the Journal “Proceedings of the International Conference on Trends and Innovations in Language Teaching”.
Dr.Durga Devi presented a paper at the International Conference “Gavanam” in March 2014 by the Department of Tamil, University of Madras.

Dr. Durga Devi was the resource person in the workshop “L’apprentissage de la langue francaise –le contexte indien “de nouvelles approaches” at JBAS College, Chennai in February 2015.
Prof. Isaac Francis, Prof Durga Sridharan, Prof. Sherrin Pradeep attended a two day seminar “New approaches in teaching of French as foreign language in India” on 19th & 20th September 2014 at Puducherry. This seminar was conducted by the Association of Indian Teachers of French in collaboration with Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for PG studies, Puducherry.
Prof. Isaac Francis, Prof. Sherrin Pradeep, Prof. Niranjana attended one day FLE workshop at the Department of French and Other Foreign Languages, University of Madras, on 30th January 2015. Formateur Raymond Richelot animated this workshop.
Prof. Jayanthi Chandrasekaran read a translated version of “Thirukural” in French in a literary program presided by His Excellency Dr. K. Rosaiah, on 14th November at Raj Bhavan, Chennai.
