OBJECTIVES:


U.G
- To engage in effective community-institution partnership in neighborhood development.

- To introduce & motivate students towards community service.

- To plan and implement suitable and durable intervention with the women, youth and children.

Dynamics of functioning:

- Twenty-three slums and Twenty-one corporation schools are involved in the project.
- Nearly 1400, 2nd year undergraduate students from 23 departments are involved in the outreach activities per year
- Each Department is allotted one community, under the guidance of Social Workers and staff in charge from the respective departments.
- Each student is expected to complete 60 hours of Community Work.
- The students do community service for 2 days in a week for two hours a day.
- Fieldwork timing for Aided Course is 2.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. and for Self-supporting course it is from 10.00 a.m. - 12.00p.m
- The hostel students conduct evening tuition for the Children in adopted areas. The timings are from 4.00p.m-6.00p.m.
- Each department is divided into teams of 10-12 members with a Team Leader and each team is assigned individual work.

Teams & Activities:

Education Programmes

- Regular teaching in Corporation Schools.

- Conducting various competitions for the School Children.

- Conducting Spoken English Classes.

- Conducting training programmes for the school children on motivation, positive thinking & personality development.

- Commemorating the important days in the school such as Literacy Day, Teachers Day, Children’s Day etc.,

- Evening tuition for the students.

- Teaching children in Balwadi.

Health Programmes:

- Conducting various awareness programmes on health, hygiene, potable drinking water, pollution, &communicable diseases.

- Conducting periodical medical check-up (dental, eye, diabetic & general health) both for the Corporation School children for the people in the community.

Women’s Empowerment Programmes:

- Educate women on Parental care &health issues.

- Conducting training programmes on legal awareness, decision-making &self-employment.

- Conducting Vocational training programmes.

- Dissemination of information about Government Schemes and welfare measures available for women.

- Conducting Adult Literacy Programmes.

- Inculcate the saving habit among women.

Youth Welfare Programmes:

- Conducting sports &talent competitions.

- Conducting Motivation programmes & Carrier Guidance for the youth

- Arranging job fairs in the community & referral services.

- Conducting training Programmes on Leadership & Personality Development.

- Conducting awareness programmes on STD, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse & alcohol.
