Ash Wednesday: Holy Mass / Prayer Service

A Motivational session on Ignatian Leadership for all Religious students

Loyola College organizes various spiritual activities through the Campus Ministry for staff and students. At the beginning of every academic year, prayer services are conducted by the campus ministry team for every group (Freshers, Seniors and Graduates) as and when it begins classes. These prayer services are inter-religious in their content.

Mass of the Holy Spirit is celebrated with much devotion and fervour at the start of every academic year. Apart from this, every month Holy Mass is celebrated for all the Catholic staff and students with specific themes. The Mass is organised by different student groups. For the Non-Catholic students, a prayer service is arranged at the same time.

Catholic students are given an opportunity to experience God during weekend retreats organised year-wise and language-wise where may persons and priests guide them. On the eve of the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Founder of the Society of Jesus and the Patron of our college, conduct a common prayer meeting, for all the staff and students in front of the statue of St. Ignatius. At this meeting reflections on the Saint are shared by some eminent priests who are invited specially for this purpose. On the Feast Day, the Loyola Family (especially the Catholic staff and students) celebrates a concelebrated Holy Mass.

Procession on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11 is an annual feature. In this procession, students and staff along with their family members take part, with lighted candles. Special homilies are preached by eminent preachers. On the Saturday evening preceding the Feast of Christ the King - the Titular Feast of the College Church, Eucharistic Procession is held. During these processions, the special and enthusiastic organization and participation by the non-teaching staff is commendable.

The Saturday following Ash Wednesday is reserved for the Penitential Walk to St.Thomas Mount where Catholic staff and students participate. The walk begins at 5 a.m., at the entrance of the campus and ends at the foot of St. Thomas Mount after two hours. The Way of the Cross is conducted from the foot of the Mount to its top. After the Way of the Cross, Holy Mass is celebrated by the Loyola Family. This is followed by breakfast served for all the participants. With the help of dedicated staff (teaching and non-teaching), as well as quite a few students, mainly drawn from the Loyola Prayer Group and the young Jesuit students from Berchmans Illam, the Campus Ministry team renders meaningful service in terms of spiritual activities to the staff and students of Loyola. The team will be happy to receive valuable suggestions from the alumni/ae, staff and students to make the ministry more meaningful for the Loyola family.
