English

The Department of English was started in 1925. It has a very illustrious history. It is one of the largest and oldest departments in the college offering students a variety of academic programmes from the under graduate to the doctoral level. The department introduced the streaming system for General English students in the early 80s to take care of individual learner differences and facilitate effective learning of English for students from vernacular medium.

A few of the many innovative courses offered to the UG & PG students are: English through Soft Skills, English through New Technologies, English for Technical Writing, Executive Communication, Revisioning Shakespeare, Protest Literature, Biography and Travelogue, Advanced Academic Writing, English Language Teaching and Training (ELTT), Asian Literature in English, etc.

Another feather in the cap of the Department was the introduction of M.Phil. in English Language Teaching in 2007. This was the first time M.Phil. (ELT) was offered at the College level in South India. We also have a Research Centre for our research scholars.
